"Negative Criticism" by Sean Tatol is an insightful essay on the place of critics in a "just let people enjoy things" society. Exploring the relationship between taste, culture and education, Tatol argues that it is innately human to judge. It is honestly frightening how rabid people become when you say something like Harry Potter lacks refinement. Children's books aside, Tatol hones in on what it truly means to be "cultured" in this thoughtful piece.
