San Diego may not experience the changing of the seasons, but that doesn’t mean you can’t embrace the cozy fall vibes. As Halloween approaches and the calendar gets shorter, check out some of these autumnal events in San Diego.

Dia De Los Muertos: La Experiencia

Dive deep into the culture of San Diego at Fiesta De Reyes’ Dia De Los Muertos: La Experiencia. Visitors can participate in the vibrant cultural Day of the Dead celebration for the entire month of October in Old Town San Diego.

La Experiencia has fun for the entire family with live entertainment, art demonstrations and professional face painting. Altars and elegantly dressed skeletons called Catrinas will decorate Fiesta De Reyes. This event is an educational and fun way to honor the Mexican culture and your loved ones.

Old Town San Diego’s official Dia De Los Muertos celebration is on Nov. 2.

Old Town San Diego will hold a candlelit procession on Nov. 2 at 6 p.m. It will start at Immaculate Conception Church, head down San Diego Avenue and end at El Campo Santo Cemetery.

Carlsbad Pumpkin Patch

Now that summer is over and strawberry season has ended, The Carlsbad Strawberry Farms have transformed into a pumpkin patch perfect for families. The farm is open daily from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tickets are $10 per person, and children five and under are free. A petting zoo experience, corn maze and tractor ride can be purchased separately.

Adults and older kids can get a scare at the farm’s Haunted Corn Maze every Friday and Saturday in October from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m.

Carlsbad Strawberry Company is one of the various pumpkin patches around San Diego.

In the middle of the corn maze, there is a hidden speakeasy for those 21+ to cool off with a beer during one of San Diego’s inevitable hot fall days. The password changes nightly and you can find them posted in the morning on the Pacific Coast Spirits Instagram page. The bar is open from 4 to 9 p.m. every Friday and Saturday for the month of October. The speakeasy is dog-friendly too!

The Scream Zone

The Scream Zone at the Del Mar Fairgrounds opened a new area called Midway Madness— it is suitable for kids (and adults) who want to avoid the scary mazes. At this spooky carnival, you could try your hand at archery, axe-throwing or fighting VR zombies. The Midway is open to everyone free of charge to enjoy the games and vendors, but look out for creepy ghouls lurking around!

The three mazes include “Stars of the Silver Scream,” “Labyrinth Manor” and “The Haunted Hayride” and are suitable for children 10 and up. You can purchase the “Triple Haunt” tickets and reserve your time slot today. You can even stop by your local San Diego Goodwill and get a coupon for $5 off admission while supplies last.

Whether you love the thrill of being scared or prefer something a little more wholesome, San Diego has many opportunities to create memories this fall. Be sure to subscribe to the blog for more trending activities in San Diego. Stay safe and happy haunting!
